11 Natural Fertility Treatments Barren Women Should Try

If you have been trying to have a baby, you are probably wondering what you could do to increase your chances of becoming pregnant.  I’ve researched natural ways to increase your chances of becoming fertile.  I’ll share some of these natural fertility treatments here and talk about fertility and infertility in women.

Infertility in Women

While no one knows for sure all of the causes of infertility in women, we do know that the number of women who are trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant is high.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 7.5 million women today are having difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant.  Some believe that this high number is due to all of the toxins that surround us in our world today.  While we don’t know for sure what causes infertility, we do know that some things can help to counteract and prevent infertility.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C can help trigger ovulation in women and increase sperm count in men.  This essential vitamin is also the catalyst that helps women absorb iron into their bodies.  Iron is an important nutrient for women who are trying to become pregnant.  Some foods that are high in Vitamin C are oranges, kale, and molasses.  Try to include more Vitamin C in your diet when working on conceiving.

Folate

Folate, also called folic acid, is a B Vitamin that can help a body to build new cells and also prevent birth defects.  If you are trying to get pregnant, experts recommend taking folate before you become pregnant.  By taking it before becoming pregnant, you ensure that your pregnancy will not fall below in folate.  You may want to take a folate supplement in addition to eating leafy green vegetables, oranges, beans, and wheat germ.

Sleep More

Sleep is vital to improving your infertility.  The average woman gets approximately just over 6 1/2 hours of sleep according to the National Sleep Foundation.  Research has suggested that lack of sleep can lead to infertility.  Sleep has a powerful effect on your hormonal system.  When a woman lacks in sleep, her hormonal cycle can get out of whack which also affects fertility.

A lack of sleep also impairs the body’s ability to adequately regulate adrenaline, cortisol, and insulin.  All of these things make conception difficult.  Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night.  If sleeping 8 hours all at once is hard to manage then add in some daily naps.

Exercise

Exercise can have a positive domino effect on your health.  When a person engages their muscles including their heart and circulatory system by exercising, their mood can greatly improve along with all of their other bodily functions.  Hormonal changes can also occur when you exercise.  Exercise can help you get your hormones in proper order.  Hormones play a role in the condition of a woman’s eggs to the condition of a man’s sperm.   A healthy sperm will reach a healthy egg better than if both were not healthy and functioning optimally.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice that involves placing very small needles into areas of the body that are believed to influence fertility.  Studies have shown that women who have had acupuncture before and after embryo transfer got pregnant at higher rates than women who didn’t have acupuncture before and after embryo transfer.

Yoga

I could find no research that indicates that yoga helps fertility, but I did find a lot of information on how yoga helps a person to relax.  Relaxation is believed to also play a big part in fertility and ultimately in becoming pregnant.  Yoga seems to be a sensible thing to try if you are wanting to become pregnant.  There would only be benefits to gain by including yoga into your lifestyle whether it helps with fertility or not.

Hypnosis

Some studies have shown that hypnosis may help with the implantation of embryos during IVF.  The research is limited in the area of hypnosis and fertility, although many believe hypnosis helps.

Fish Oils

Omega-3s and cod liver oil found in fish is believed to help fertility.  By taking these two supplements or adding them to your food diet, you will also increase your future baby’s chances for a healthy pregnancy and development.

Watch Your Intake of Alcohol and Caffeine

Too much alcohol and caffeine can decrease your chances of becoming pregnant.  Alcohol can alter your estrogen levels which can also interfere with egg implantation.  Caffeine can affect female hormone levels which can make it more difficult to conceive.  If you still want to drink alcohol and/or caffeine, it is wise to drink in moderation if trying to become pregnant.

Maintain A Healthy Body Weight

Excess body fat can lead to an overproduction of hormones that may disrupt your ovulation.  Obesity can lead to irregular cycles, and you may ovulate less.  On the flip side, too little body fat can mean that your body isn’t producing enough hormones to ovulate each month.  A low body fat may also make it hard to sustain a pregnancy after you conceive. So try your best to maintain a healthy weight and diet.

In Conclusion

Infertility can be a stressful and sad phase of life if you want to have a child.  The good news is that there are natural things that you can do to help increase your odds.  I’ve covered just some of those ways here.  Try to do everything right that will make your body healthy as it can be, without overthinking it too much.  Stress can hinder fertility as much as doing the right things can help fertility.  I hope that you can use some of these suggestions to help you become pregnant!
