It is never too early to start teaching your child to read. Listening levels are several grades higher than reading levels for children, which means reading aloud to your kids is a wonderful option for teaching your children how to read. As your kids get older, they will soon learn to read for themselves and, hopefully, they will fall in love with books. Carl is a protective, loving Rottweiler who takes care of a baby girl named Madeleine. There are not many words in this kids book series, which makes it very easy to read. In fact, most of the pages are wordless. Instead, the detailed art explains the story, which makes it easy for young kids to understand. Written by Alexandra Day, this kids book series has many books written about Carl. Some of them have to do with holidays, whiles others simply explain the life of Carl. This is a must-read book series if you have young kids.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? By Bill Martin Jr.

This next kids book series is made for young children. The author keeps asking what each animal sees, and each animal explains what they are seeing. In the end, the author asks what the children see, and the children name each animal that they see on the page. This book series can help your child identify animal species, as well as read simple words. Your child is going to fall in love with all of the animals and the rhyming words that this book has. Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans

The Madeline series follows the story of a little girl named Madeline. Madeline lives in an orphanage in Paris and is the littlest girl who lives there. Although she may be small, she is the most courageous little girl. Madeline has many adventures, which is why there are many books written about her. Written in 1958, this book is considered a classic. It is still loved as much as it was back then. This is a great book series for girls.

Ivy and Bean By Annie Barrows and Sophie Blackwell

Ivy and Bean are two girls who never meant to like each other. However, they soon find that people who don't mean to be friends can become the best friends in the world. Although they are complete opposites, they still love going on adventures together. Bean is wild and loud, while Ivy is quiet and full of ideas. Because they are different, they help each other out. A story about friendships and adventures, the Ivy and Bean series is perfect for young children aged 5 through 8. There are 11 books in the series, plus an extra fill-in-the-blank book.

Little House Series by Laura Ingalls Wilder

This beloved classic series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder contains all the stories of when Laura was a young girl in the 1800s and 1900s. In the series are the following books: Little House in the Big Woods, Farmer Boy, Little House on the Prairie, On the Banks of Plum Creek, By the Shores of Silver Lake, The Long Winter, Little Town on the Prairie, These Happy Golden Years, and The First Four Years. Your children will be entertained by all the fun stories and adventures Laura writes about, and they will learn a lot about life long ago.

The Rocky Ridge Series by Roger Lea MacBride

If your kids love the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, they may love the Rocky Ridge series. The Rocky Ridge series continues with the life of Laura, Almanzo, and their daughter Rose. It especially focuses on Rose Wilder Lane's life. The series include Little House on Rocky Ridge, In the Land of the Big Red Apple, Little Town in the Ozarks, New Dawn on Rocky Ridge, Little Farm in the Ozarks, On the Other Side of the Hill, On the Banks of the Bayou, and Bachelor Girl. The beginning of the series describes the journey that Rose and her family took as they moved away from the Dakota territory, where Laura Ingalls Wilder had grown up. At the end of the series, Rose is grown up and has to make a choice of what journey she is going to take. This is a wonderful series on the life of Rose Wilder Lane and her family. 

The Caroline Years Series by Maria D. Wilkes

Once again, this kids book series is part of the Little House series. It is about the life of Caroline Ingalls as a young girl. Best known as Ma, this book tells the story of Caroline in 1845. Caroline’s father was lost at sea, so it takes a lot of courage and hard work for Caroline and her family to help out at the farm. This series tells the adventures of Caroline as she starts her first day of school, makes friends, becomes a teacher, and meets Charles Ingalls and begins a life of her own. Be sure to get the rest of the Little House Family books, such as the Martha Years (about Laura's great-grandmother) and the Charlotte Years (about Laura's grandmother).

Anne Of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery

Anne of Green Gables is another classic that is enjoyed by many. It tells the story of an orphan girl named Anne Shirley who ends up at the Cuthbert house, although Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert asked for a boy. This series begins with when Anne was 11-years old and then ends when Anne's children are all grown up. This is a wonderful series full of humor, friendships, romance, and adventures. Your children are bound to fall in love with Anne Shirley.

The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner

This beloved chapter book series tells the story of four orphaned children who make a home for themselves in an abandoned boxcar in the forest. When they eventually meet their grandfather, they find out he is not the cruel man that they thought he was, but instead he is a kind, wealthy man. The four children decide to live with their grandfather. The grandfather then moves the boxcar to his backyard so that the children can use it as a playhouse. Gertrude Chandler Warner wrote most of the books in the series.

Ramona Quimby Series by Beverly Cleary

Ramona Quimby is a lively girl who experiences many funny and embarrassing moments. This kids book series includes Beezus and Ramona, Ramona the Pest, Ramona the Brave, Ramona and Her Father, Ramona and Her Mother, Ramona Quimby Age 8, Ramona Forever, and Ramona's World. Your kids are going to fall in love with Ramona, as well as her family.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Little Women is a classic novel written by Louisa May Alcott. In addition to this beloved classic, Louisa has written other books such as Good Wives, Little Men, and Jo's Boys. The novels follow the lives of the four March girls, Meg, Beth, Jo, and Amy.

Remember that if your child is bored with the book he or she is reading, it is fine to put it away and get a different book.
