A Glimpse Into My World
Hello world! My name is Cara and I manage the site here at OurStart.com. I’m a twenty three year old woman who is engaged to the man of my dreams, much like many of you visiting the site. I have a great job, a great man, and overall a pretty great life. Some of you might be thinking, “Oh, just another typical engaged bride-to-be”, but trust me, it hasn’t been all rainbows and butterflies to get to where I am.
A little bit about me!
I grew up in the suburbs of Lancaster county and met my future husband when I was 16 years old. He was the hunky 21 year old I just couldn’t seem to take my eyes off of. We met at an orientation at Isaacs Restaurant and Deli. We were even hired on the same day (I believe it was a sign. Duh!).
Of course, Dan had a girlfriend and never in a million years did I think he’d be into some young, sixteen year old girl that was always drooling over him. But low and behold he was interested.
When his relationship ended and I caught his eye, age couldn’t stop us from having feelings for each other. We craved each others presence all the time and became attached quickly! It is amazing how when you find that one person you are meant to be with, being around them and in their company can make you feel better then you’d ever imagine
I will never forget the day he asked me to be his girlfriend, I surprised him by going up to one of his soccer games (how could I resist watching him). I showed up at his game and afterwards, we went out with some friends to grab some food. And then he asked me to officially be his girlfriend in front of a bunch of our friends! I had to say yes, not like any part of me wanted to say no.
I felt like the luckiest girl in the world. The guy I couldn’t stop thinking about actually wanted me as well!
Well here’s where things got tricky. I knew my family wouldn’t be okay with the age difference. So I tried to hide him from them, and let me tell you ladies, this is a VERY bad idea. Once they found out, I was in very hot water.
The funny thing was at the same time, Dan didn’t tell his family about us for over a year! A 21 year old with a 16 year old was something most people weren’t so fond of, but we knew there was something special here. Clearly, we were right!
What I have learned from my journey.
Of course we have had our fair share of fights. We’ve broken up, we’ve hated each other. There was one point in my life when I told myself I’d NEVER get back with him again, but that is a story for another time. If I can give you ladies any advice in moving forward with this new journey of life, don’t take your man for granted.
I have found myself a soulmate who makes me excited about life. It’s been 7 years of ups and downs, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. He loves me for who I am and I never spend a day questioning where we are, or what he thinks of me. He loves me for me, and I love him for him.
We can be completely ourselves with each other. Whether it’s us being goofy or needing to be serious for a few minutes. Planning forever with this man is all I could ever ask for. I hope all of you ladies reading this blog stick with us on our journey and share with me about yours!
