16 Bible Verses to Keep You at Peace After a Fight with Your Spouse

You will fight in your marriage and this is an obvious given. If you thought that a solid marriage was perfect with no fighting, or you have not fought yet in the relationship you are in, then believe me, it will happen and it is okay when it does.

Now obviously, it is not healthy if you are constantly arguing and screaming at each other twenty four seven. But sometimes after a petty fight, the best thing to do is cool off and give yourselves some space and breathing room. And if you are a believer in the Lord and want to honor your spouse and heavenly father all at the same time, then reading up on some helpful Bible verses after an argument can be a great cure.

Keep in mind some of these verses concerning love and marriage after a tricky and tough situation, and ask the Lord to bring you peace and the confidence to confront the argument after some time to think everything over.

Ephesians 4:2-3

“Be completely humble and gentle; Be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

Colossians 3:12-14

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Ephesians 4:31-32

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

1 Peter 3:7

“Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.”

Galatians 5:19-25

“The acts of flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

1 Peter 4:8-10

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

Matthew 6:14-15

“For if you forgive other people when the sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sin, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Psalm 37:8

“Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret, it leads only to evil.”

 Proverbs 29:22-23

“An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot tempered person commits many sins. Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor.”

Romans 12:17-19

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge, I will repay,” says the Lord.”

Philippians 4:13

“I can do all things through him who gives me strength.”

Psalm 34:17

“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”

James 1:2-4

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Isaiah 41:10

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Song of Songs 8:6-7

“Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like a blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned.”

Ephesians 5:22-28

“Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.”
