When you are first evaluating people to date, there are many things that you want to consider. Things such as, if you’re attracted to him, what his job is, if he’s easy to talk to, the list goes on and on. But, what about issues that run deeper? What are some qualities that all good husbands possess? We will unpack those particular qualities in our article today.
1. Integrity
Plain and simple. You want to make sure that you can trust your husband in all areas. Having integrity means that he won’t cheat to get ahead in his job or fudge some things on your taxes. It also means that you don’t have to worry about him cheating on you with another woman. You can relax and not be paranoid every time he goes on a business trip.
2. Patience
This is crucial. You want to make sure that he will be able to put up with you when you start freaking out or get anxious. He should have patience when speaking to your children and speaking to those around him. Having patience means that he is quicker to listen than he is to speak. That also means that you won’t have to worry about getting on the wrong side of his horrible temper.
3. Ambition
In high school, it might have been cute when your boyfriend wanted to play video games all day, but that time has long passed. Now, you need to be looking for a man who strives to work hard every day. Someone who has a well thought out career plan and wants to provide for you and your family. This is not someone who is still working at Starbucks to get by; this is someone who is working at a real job.
4. How He Treats His Family
Now, everyone has unique family situations, so he might have some real reasons for not keeping in contact with his family that is admirable. However, in most cases, you want a man who treats his family well, especially his sisters and mother. Because here’s the kicker. He is going to treat you the way he treats his mother. Maybe not right now when the relationship is fresh and new, but in a couple of years when you’ve been together, and things get boring, you better hope he’ll treat you with the love he shows to his female family members. Also, a family is probably going to be an end goal in any relationship. So, if he doesn’t put a value on his own family right now, what makes you think he would put a value on your future family?
5. Confidence
Now, it’s important to distinguish cockiness and confidence. Confidence is being secure in who you are, while cockiness is being too full of yourself. Find yourself a man who is confident. You want a man who is proud of who he is and is not willing to change just because not everyone likes him. That type of confidence is going to make your job as a supportive girlfriend ten times easier.
As you can see, these qualities aren’t the most desirable or talked about parts of someone, but they are important keys to having a good relationship. So, the next time you’re wondering if he’s cute enough or funny enough for you, you might want to see how he measures up in the areas that really matter.
