5 Quick Tips To Eating Healthier When You’re Busy

Exhausted? Busy?

Think that you barely have enough time to think, let alone plan what you are going to eat? With a mind that is racing with thoughts of work, housework, roommates, food to be made, projects to be completed, and spouses to entertain, it can feel like you don’t have any time for yourself.

Maybe you are someone who follows Instagram accounts that showcase fabulous pictures of eating cleanly. Perhaps, you are hooked on junk food but want to curb your craving. Maybe you just started a job and didn’t realize how easy it would be to gain weight when you spend most of your day sitting.

Either way, we hope that this list can help give you tips to eat healthier amidst your busy life.

Many people think that to eat healthily you have to give up the food you love most, become a vegan, and maybe stop shaving your armpits. Luckily, this is not true.

Don’t Skip Meals

You heard me. It is important when you are trying to lose weight or minimize how much you are eating that you don’t skimp on the food you are consuming. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, which means that a cup of coffee doesn’t exactly cut the mustard. Why is breakfast important exactly? Because it replenishes your supply of glucose and other essential nutrients for the day and helps to break the fasting period that your body is accustomed to during the night. It is much healthier to eat three full meals each day than to graze continually throughout the day.

 Plan Out Meals

I know that the last thing you might want to think about on your weekend is the upcoming week, but taking that five minutes to plan out your meals for the week or even the first couple of days can save you time in the long run. It will help you to have a strategy when you head to the grocery store and have the resources you need to actually make a meal. Once a month maybe take some time to make meals with a couple of friends and then freeze them for a quick meal during the week. Finally, make friends with the “famous” crock pot. Seriously, this can work wonders in saving you time. There are hundreds of crock pot recipes out there on the interwebs, and we have included some for you to check out right here, that can take you up to a half an hour to complete. Think about how nice it would be to throw some cans into a container and leave it heating up as you go to work?

Drink That H20

It can be easy, especially if we are exhausted from an early morning or just craving our favorite guilty pleasure drink to reach for that bottle of pop or Starbucks latte, but water is so much better for our body. Drinking soda or excess sugary drinks are the easiest way to throw away your calories. Just some brief highlights of drinking water are refreshing your skin, maintaining bodily fluids, and energizing muscles. But are you just one of those people that don’t like to drink water? No problem. Try using flavored water tablets or droplets to help flavor your water without adding excessive calories.  Not to mention drinking more water can majorly save you time and money in the mornings.  Imagine carrying a bottle of water to work every day instead of spending $7 at your favorite coffee shop.

Surround Yourself With Healthy Snacks

This can be a tough one especially when you would much rather be indulging in chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate. But there are some great ways to include the sweet and salty into a snack that won’t inflate your jean size overnight. Think about trying out popcorn, trail mix, Greek yogurt, fruit, or pretzels instead of chips or chocolate.

Don’t Be Afraid To Eat Out

Many people believe that eating out is the reason that they are gaining weight and that they won’t be able to find healthy options. This is not necessarily true.  For an instance, most fast food restaurants now have salad and fruit options, as well as calorie counts next to their purchases. I am not saying to eat fast food every day, but don’t forget that it is healthy and natural to treat yourself sometimes. For a sit-down meal out, you can get just as many nutrients with a night out as you might make for yourself.  It can be hard to cook for yourself every night of the week, especially as projects start to pile up, clients start to ask more of you, and you have a roommate or toddler whining in your ear, so give yourself a break and let yourself dine out sometimes.

We know that these are just a few tips that might seem impossible to incorporate into your busy life, but we know that with a little bit of work, you can be eating healthy and managing your life well. Let us know if you found these tips helpful in the comments below!
