Outdoor weddings are so much fun! While they can be sort of chancy, because there is always the possibility of rain or even worse, snow (although I would hope that you would not plan a wedding outdoors if snow is even a question). But if you end up having a perfect day with beautiful weather for a wedding outdoors, then it can be one of the best weddings anyone could go to. Because believe it when people say that weather really does affect people’s moods.
So a sunny wedding, is a happy wedding!
But if you want to keep your guests happy the whole day, and better yet, give them something to do in the in-between time of things, then lawn games are definitely something to consider. This will not only keep the kids happy and satisfied, but give your wedding reception time a more relaxed and fun atmosphere. So if you are having an outdoor wedding, you can’t leave these lawn games out of the picture!
1. Bocce Ball
Bocce ball is a classic! To play, you must have the highest amount of points. A point is given for each time a bocce ball is closer to the pallino than the bocce ballĀ of the other team. There is a marker that is used to measure which ball is closer, and the first team to twelve points win. If twelve is too much, the teams can decide on another goal.
2. Croquet
Croquet is another popular lawn game that is played at outdoor weddings. The point of the game is to hit your ball through the six hoops that are set up on the course. You have to hit them in the correct sequence and direction, and to finish off, you hit it against the center peg. This can be played with 2-4 players, so the side that gets the ball through all of the obstacles first wins!
3. Cornhole
Cornhole is an easy, picnic classic. This game can be played by both adults and kids! There are four players, and opposing players stand at the ends with each other. You then aim the beanbag to try and get it into the hole. You can play with points, or just that whoever gets the most beanbags in the hole wins. Whichever you want, this is a great backyard game!
4. Volleyball
Volleyball is an iffy when it comes to wedding lawn games. It can be hard for the women and girls that are wearing dresses, because backyard volleyball can turn dirty and get intense very quickly. But if you have an athletic family, or friends that love to play volleyball for fun on the weekends, then volleyball is a great idea! But feel no pressure if you are not interested.
5. Badminton
Badminton is one of those games that you envision people playing at tea parties. So if you are having a more classy, outdoor wedding, then this game is a must have! To me, badminton is a lot like tennis, except the birdie cannot touch the ground. It is a very fun game, and can be played by guests of all ages.
6. Horseshoes
Who does not love a good game of horseshoes? Play solo or grab a partner! If you have a partner, you want to stand on the opposite side of your partner, with the other person from your team beside you. You throw the horseshoe and try to get it to land on the peg as much as possible, or at least semi close to the peg. Just be careful of little kids that may be toddling around! A metal horseshoe to the head is not very fun!
7. Giant Jenga
Want to incorporate a little bit of your childhood into your big day? Then why not do it with a fun game that you grew up with as a child? Jengas is a super fun game, and is even more fun when it is giant! When it is your turn, you take out one block of your choosing. The goal is to not make the tower collapse. Whoever does pull out a block and makes it fall, is the loser! Children will love playing this one, and it will be a walk down memory lane for the older ones as well.
