Essential oils are a natural cure for many conditions and ailments.  They can be used to calm you down, wake you up, ease your pain, and so many more things.  I’ve put together a list here of some of the best and most commonly used essential oils today.

Essential Oils for Sleep

If you are having a hard time falling asleep at night, essential oils may do the trick.  The best way to use the essential oil is to keep an open jar of essential oils. Another way to use it is to spray some on your pillow.  People who sniff the essential oil before going to bed have been known to fall asleep right away.  Here are some oils to try: lavender, vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood, ylang-ylang, chamomile, neroli, marjoram, cedar, bergamot, clary sage, frankincense, and rose.

Essential Oils for Anxiety

Any aroma that brings you a sense of calm is beneficial, so your favorite essential oils may be what will help take away your stress.  One of the best ways to apply it is to massage an oil blend with calming scents into your temples.  Here are some essential oils to try: rose, clary sage, frankincense, lavender, bergamot, marjoram, ylang-ylang, lemon, geranium, orange, sandalwood, chamomile, and vetiver.

One study showed that sniffing rosemary can increase memory by 75%, and peppermint helps people get more focused.  Other essential oils, such as basil and helichrysum, help with burnout and mental fatigue.  Because of these benefits that essential oils give, many people spray themselves with an oil-infused face mist.  Others simply sniff the essential oil, without even taking it out of the jar.  Essential oils that help with concentration are rosemary, basil, peppermint, helichrysum, cedar, vetiver, grapefruit, pine, or juniper.

Essential Oils for Energy

Some people found that instead of having another cup of coffee, essential oils is what gave them energy.  One study found that peppermint oil can lead to a boost in exercise performance.  If you are looking for essential oils that will provide you with energy, try lemon, orange, grapefruit, eucalyptus, cinnamon, peppermint, ginger, rosemary, spearmint, black pepper, or jasmine oil.

If you are suffering from back pain, arthritis, or any other aching muscles, using an essential oil may be what you are looking for.  Simply apply it onto the area that is in pain.  It is recommended to make a mixture by mixing several essential oils together.  Essential oils to use include lavender, chamomile, peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, juniper, wintergreen, cayenne, ginger, sandalwood, clary sage, clove, marjoram, yarrow, or Helichrysum oil.

If you have acne, there are essential oils that you can to cure it.  Oils to use include tea tree oil, lavender, oregano, bergamot, rosemary, helichrysum oil.

Essential oils can be bought nearly anywhere: the store, online; you name it.  But it depends on what kind you want, and which type works for you.  For example, there are essential oils that are organic, but you might not see them at your local store.  If you are looking for a specific brand or type, then there’s a better chance that you’d find it on the internet than you would at the store.

How to Use Essential Oils

Essential oils can be used in many different ways.  Some people prefer to simply sniff the essential oils, while others prefer to have it sprayed on an item.  Below is a list of ideas for ways to use essential oils.

  • Apply oil to a cotton ball and place in the air vents of your vehicle
  • Mist it over furniture
  • Add oil to a batch of laundry or dryer sheets
  • Use in household surface cleaners
  • Add a few drops of oil to a warm bath
  • Add oil to a lotion and then apply to skin

I’ve put together another list of essential oils that can be used internally.  As always, make sure to check the label to make sure that it is safe to ingest.  To be extra safe, don’t use it internally.  However, if you are sure that it is safe, then here are some ways to use it:

  • Use oils in recipes for cooking or baking
  • Add essential oils to water, smoothies, milk, tea, or other drinks
  • Take essential oils internally in a veggie capsule
