“The camera is my tool. Through it I give a reason to everything around me.” – André Kertész
These days, wedding photographers are key to making a bride happy on her wedding day. It’s not just the flowers, the ceremony, the dancing, or even the groom. It is the photographer.
No pressure.
Why, you might ask? Why is the photographer the most important thing on a bride’s wedding day? We live in a world of photos. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and so much more. A picture here, a picture there. A picture of your food or of your cat wearing a baseball hat. A picture of a beautiful waterfall that you discovered while going on that hike. You get the idea.
A bride is going to want good photos. A bride is going to want photos that truly capture the essence of the day and the true love shared between her and her soulmate. A bride also wants photos as soon as possible from a photographer, completely edited and created to perfection. So needless to say, there is a lot of pressure on a wedding photographer to please the bride.
Does a wedding photographer truly love their job? It simply depends on the photographer, but it is safe to assume that 99% of wedding photographers do love their job. They get to witness lovers committing to their life to each other for a living. They get to scroll through pictures of a man looking at his wife with admiration as he says, “I do.”
But is taking photos a photographer’s favorite thing about a wedding? We decided to ask a few photographers what their favorite aspect about a wedding is, whether it be photography related or not. You might find some of their answers interesting and intriguing. Take a look!
“What is your favorite thing about a wedding?”
“Seeing all the different ways that couples personalize their day. When they bring out aspects that are uniquely them. Whether it be posing with their childhood photos or doing something that is not traditional, something that is them. That is what I love.”
– Andrew Hostetler
“My favorite part of shooting weddings isn’t the wedding and it’s not the party after. It’s before. When the mother of the bride helps the bride into the dress or when the groomsmen calm the groom’s nerves with jokes. I have found the preparations for the wedding the most exciting and intimate moments to capture.”
– Lynzee Hershey
“My favorite part of a wedding and the thing that always gets me the most is the father daughter dances. I always end up in tears! Dancing with my dad at my wedding was so sweet and special, I guess seeing other daddies and daughters dancing takes me back. I love witnessing those special moments and reminiscing of my own!”
– Alyssa Boettner
“I love watching the moment when the wedding couple’s eyes lock on each other for the first time. Whether it’s during the wedding ceremony or during a first look, it’s one of my favorite moments. ”
– Mike Allebach
“The moments a father shares with his daughter!”
– Gabriel Fredericks
“Capturing a fleeting moment on camera that visually shows the true emotions and feelings of the bridal couple on their special day. Not a directed photo, but a found image. ”
– Edwin Huddle
“As a wedding photographer, my favorite thing about weddings is the in between moments. When the bride sees herself in the dress for the first time… when the couple have a minute to be together without anyone around them. And I love all daddy/daughter moments! “
– Kathleen Hertel
“That all of your friends and family come together to celebrate you!”
– Belathée Photography
“My favorite thing about weddings is being able to watch families set aside their differences and come together to celebrate love. It is especially sweet seeing the excitement of the bride and groom as they finally become one. It is truly an exciting time.”
– Kent Redcay
To know that many photographers love a lot more than just shooting a wedding, and that different photographers like different aspects, is heart warming! They care about you as a couple and are not just there to make the money. They love photographing your favorite moments, and the moments that are spontaneous that you did not expect. Wedding photographers truly do love their job. So just remember, that even though you hired them and they are working, they are there enjoying your beautiful day just like others attending and are there to capture your moments as a married couple.
And that is pretty special, if you ask me.
