Get the “Aw!” Your Guests Desire with These Flower Girl Alternatives

The flower girl has a very important role to play, whether she is old enough to know it or not, we may never know! But she is the last thing that the guests see before the bride and her father make their way down the aisle (most of the time, anyways). So of course you want your guests to remember her!

And in most traditional weddings, the flower girl will toss petals on the ground to create a romantic and beautiful feel before the bride glides her way to her groom. But if you are a bride that likes to break the traditional mold, or you just do not feel like having your favorite little chica toss flowers everywhere, then maybe considering something else is just what you need!

When planning for your big day and what your flower girl is going to do, take some of these suggestions into consideration. You never know what unique ideas you can come up with until you get into your creative box and focus! So take these ideas as is and utilize them, or add your own unique twist to them!

1. Balloons

What little girl doesn’t love balloons? Whether it be one big balloon as pictured above, or a whole bunch of colorful balloons that she gets to carry, this will definitely be a crowd pleaser! If you have a younger flower girl, you can always tie the balloon to her wrist. Whatever you decide, balloons are a great and affordable option!

2. Dog

Want to incorporate your favorite furry friend into your ceremony (Click here for more ideas on how to do so)? If you are not wild about the idea of having your dog be your “Dog of Honor” or sitting up front with you during the ceremony, consider having the flower girl walk them down the aisle. But remember, if the dog is bigger than your girl, that better be one calm dog! Make sure the flower girl is okay with the dog, and that no accidents will happen easily.

3. Garland

Still want to have your flower girl actually have flowers somehow without doing the typical petal toss? Consider a flower garland! This is an excellent choice, especially if you have more than one flower girl! And if you only have one flower girl, but still want to use this idea, then get the ring bearer involved! Have him help the flower girl, and the guests will definitely be pleased by their cuteness.

4. Carry the Train!

If your flower girl is older (or flower girls), then possibly having them carry your train is a wonderful idea! Any young girl is anxious to help the bride, and holding the train will definitely make them feel important! This also gives your ceremony a more traditional and classy approach to things.

5. Pinwheel

Want to bring out the playfulness in your favorite little girl? A pinwheel is the way to go! She may be obsessed with blowing on it constantly, but who cares? This is a cheap and cute way to have your flower girl glide down the aisle, just like the bride! Or if she skips, that is pretty adorable too.

6. Wagon Ride

Okay, this is super cute for the toddler flower girls. If you have more than one flower girl, or a ring bearer who is more than eager to show off his little muscles, then pulling a small flower girl in a decorated wagon is a crowd pleaser. She will definitely steal the show. And if you are not careful, she may steal the show more than you! Just kidding.

7. Pomander

This is another great way to incorporate the floral element for your flower girl. A simple pomander will do just the trick! This is a beautiful accent for both older flower girls and smaller flower girls, and will be an amazing touch on your classy wedding.

8. Bubbles

And who doesn’t love bubbles? Your flower girl will love you for life if you let her blow bubbles on her way down the aisle. This may save a temper tantrum, and will make your guests smile as she makes her way down the aisle. You may make them jealous that they do not have bubbles as well!
