Better for Wider Bottles Instead of Slender Bottles

Some people discovered that this bottle warmer doesn’t work well with long and slender bottles.  Here a customer explains the issue,

“Works well to warm our bottles, but I think it would be more effective with a deeper well to put the bottles in. We use Dr. Brown bottles which are on the slender side, so we have to shake the bottle mid warming cycle to make sure the whole thing gets warm and not just the bottom. Also, with slender bottles, you have to put more water than what the fill line on the warmer actually says. Works much better with wider base bottles.”

Questionable Durability

I found a lot of comments that said this bottle warmer stopped working after about a month. I question how durable this is product is.  Here is one of the many comments about it ceasing to work,

Some appliances you may not think need cleaned too often.  I would have guessed that a bottle warmer was one of those things.  But I was wrong. The amount of cleaning that it takes is definitely not a selling point.

“You have to clean it every 2 days, and descale every month. Considering all the stuff you have to do when you have a baby, this just adds to that and all its really doing is swirling warm water around the bottle.”

Needs To Have A Lid

If you do purchase this bottle warmer, be aware that it does not come with a lid.  Unfortunately, you may need to make-shift a lid as other people did.  The problem arises when dirt gets in the warmer.  There were many comments about this warmer not working after a month or so because small amounts of debris got in there.

“First one was a lemon and broke the first or second week, just stopped working. We contacted the manufacturer, and they sent a replacement product. The replacement has worked well, and we’ve had it for about three months. I do think it should come with a lid, which it does not. We were told the first one probably stopped working because it got dirt inside. Well, we followed the instructions for cleaning it, so it wasn’t our fault. With the new one, we cover it with some aluminum foil when it’s not in use to keep dust out. That’s an ugly solution though, so I really wish it came with a lid.”

Water Drains Out At Set Time. This Prevents Overheating

An issue with warming a bottle on the stove is that the bottle can quickly overheat if it is not taken out of the water.  While I’ve never personally heated a bottle for my baby, I have heated bottles for farm animals.  Many times I had to wait to feed the bottle because I didn’t take it out of the hot water soon enough.  Even if you turn off stovetop heat, if you let the bottle set in the water, it will keep heating.  And then you have to wait until it cools down.  This baby warmer has a great feature of removing the water at a set time, so that the bottle doesn’t keep heating. A customer explains this feature, 

“What we find most useful is that not only is there a timer so you can heat the milk up to the perfect temp, but it also has this compartment in the bottom that the water sinks back into when the timer is done. This is key, because it means that the bottle is no longer sitting in warm water. We have bought a warmer in the past that warmed the milk, but if you didn’t take it out right away the milk would get waaaaay too hot.”

My Conclusion

The Kiinde Kozii Bottle Warmer and Breast Milk Warmer is a nice appliance to have to save on time spent heating baby bottles.  This bottle warmer has a timer that you can set along with auto shut off.  This means that when the bottle is finished heating, it will shut off and also remove the water surrounding the bottle. These features prevent overheating of the milk.  

Waiting for milk to cool back down is both a waste of your precious time and it can be a stress to a hungry baby.  The price is fair for what you get.  One concern though is that many customers commented that this bottle warmer broke after a month or so time. Customer service is good in dealing with these issues, but it is still a concern.  Many people felt a lid would have been a nice feature to keep it cleaner and hence to keep it from breaking prematurely.
