A Letter To My Future Husband

Not the Meghan Trainor song.

Dear Future Husband,

Though I might not have met you yet, I am so excited to spend my life with you. I can’t wait to wake up to you each morning and go to sleep with you each night. I can’t wait for all the movies we’ll watch on rainy days and the cafes we will explore. I can’t wait to take you to meet my family, and for all the times you will cuddle away my anxiety.

I hope that you’ll find my snoring cute, and not yell at me when I have trouble making a decision. I might not be the best cook, but I am great at going to get Chikfila and Taco Bell. I know that I’ll be comfortable eating whatever in front of you, and I hope that you’ll pretend to like the meals I make in the crock pot.

You should know that Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year, and you should expect me to start singing Christmas carols and putting up the tree by the end of October. Promise me that you’ll kill all the spiders in the house and hold my hand when we watch scary movies. Promise me that you’ll provide for our hopefully growing family and that you’ll be around to attend all our kids sporting events and dance recitals.

I promise that I will always put our family first and your needs as well. I can’t promise that I’ll always be on time, but when I do arrive I will be present and intentional with you. I know that whenever you come into my life, whether as a setup, completely unexpected, or a long time coming, that you will change it completely. My world is in black and white right now, and I am just waiting for you to give me some color and patterns.

I have had my fair share of terrible relationships, and I can’t wait for you to prove to me that there are guys out there who will love you unconditionally and not leave you when you gain five pounds. I hope that you are just as hopelessly romantic as I am, but if not, I know that I will be able to tell that you love me through your acts of service and listening ear to my rants.

I am most definitely not a perfect person, and I don’t expect you for one second to be either. But I know that I will be able to bring out the best in you, and you the best in me. And at the end of the day, all I need is someone to believe in me through the good and bad times, and I know I’ll be able to find that in you.

I hope that I can meet you soon and that we can start the long journey of our lives together. I can’t wait to look into your eyes on the first day we meet, and look at them years later when our grandchildren surround us. Thank you for everything you have been and will be for me.

I love you already. But please hurry up.

All my love,

Your future wife
