At Last, the Secret to Peeing in a Wedding Dress

You’ve picked the wedding dress of your dreams. It’s been altered and fits your body like a glove. As you try it on one last time before the big day, a thought crosses your mind. How am I supposed to pee in this dress? Wedding dresses are typically heavy and contain a lot of material, making it near to impossible to navigate the bathroom. Never fear! Thousands of brides have come before you and experimented in order to provide you with the best techniques to relieve yourself on your wedding day. Below you will find four of the most popular methods, as tested by Buzzfeed’s resident bride, Kristin Chirico.

Method 1

For this method, you must lift the skirt of your dress over your head while a friend lifts the skirt from the front. Then, carefully sit down on the toilet and do your thing.

Kristin’s only worry was that she could not see where she was sitting. Also, this method requires you to have a willing friend you don’t mind staring in the eye as you urinate. But there’s nothing like some bride-bridesmaid bonding!

The bridal buddy method introduces you to the world of bathroom aids for brides! The existence of such a market reveals that you are not alone — many brides have worried about and struggled through this natural process. This product requires you to step into it, wearing it like a skirt under your dress. Pull the drawstrings tight until it securely rests on your waist. Then, lift the bridal buddy and stuff your dress into it. Slide your arms into the arm holes to keep the material away from the toilet. Sit down on the toilet and relieve yourself!

While the dainty, white material of this product gives off a bridal vibe, Kristin points out that such coloration makes it difficult to differentiate between her gown and the bridal buddy. Also, even though this product eliminates your need for assistance in the bathroom, Kristin found that a friend was still helpful.

If you are a DIY bride and can’t bring yourself to make purchases unless they are absolutely necessary, you can make your own bridal buddy out of a trash bag. Tear a hole into the bottom of a large trash bag. Step into the hole and gather the skirt of your dress into it. Rest back on the loo and urinate away.

Kristin made a comment about the large amount of material she had to fit into the bag, that it felt like the dress never ended. Also, even though she did not verbally make note of this fact, a friend entered the screen for a period of time in order to help stuff her dress into the trash bag. Otherwise, she deemed this method an efficient one if you are on your own. Aside from feeling slightly like a trash bag yourself, this method might be right for you!

This last method also requires the assistance of at least one friend. A variation of the first technique, you will gather the front of your dress while a friend holds the back. Turn around and sit backwards on the privy.

Kristin completed this method relatively quickly and easily — perhaps because of the experienced gained on the previous ones or because of its simplicity in comparison to the middle two. Kristin rated this as “a good method” and that “it just depends on peeing in front of your friend.”

Conclusion

Out of these four major methods, Kristin deemed sitting backwards and the trash bag as the most effective. But in the end, the method you choice will depend on your personal preference and the style of your dress. No matter which of these techniques or which variations of these techniques you decide to use, your bridesmaids will be essential. Choose these ladies carefully, warn them about the extent of their responsibilities, and thank them profusely!
