Things To Consider When Purchasing

Before purchasing the Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+, you will first need to consider some things.  First of all, do you have a young child that needs sunscreen?  This product is made for young babies to protect them from the sun.  The Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+ is a safe sunscreen for babies.  It does not contain any harmful chemicals, paraben, phtalates, PABA, avobenzone, oxybenzone, or UV chemical absorbents.  Here are some other things to consider:

  • Do I have other young children?  If so, kids sunscreen is a good option.  Keep in mind though that a lot of customers used this product for kids and even adults too.
  • Is my child an infant?  This sunscreen works well on infants according to customers.  But if you are wanting to buy an infant sunscreen, there is quite a bit of sunscreens for infants on the market.
  • Are you trying to stay away from the chemicals found in sunscreen?  Don't worry.  The Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+ is a mineral-based sunscreen that is free of biologically harmful chemicals.
  • What's your budget?  This baby sunscreen is rather expensive considering that you only get 3 ounces.  Are you willing to spend that kind of money?

Who Should Buy This Product

Anyone who is wanting to protect their baby's skin from the sun will benefit from this product.  Not only will this sunscreen protect your baby, but it is free of harmful chemicals.  Because almost all sunscreens contain some sort of harmful chemical, it is a relief to most parents that this is not one of those sunscreens.  Instead, it is avobenzone free, oxybenzone free, free of UV chemical absorbents, paraben free, phthalates free, and PABA free.

Not only is this product free of harmful chemicals, but it has also not been tested on animals.  For all the animal lovers out there, you will probably be glad to hear that.  As for applying, this baby sunscreen is not oily.  There were mixed reviews on whether this sunscreen is thick or not.  Note that it is better to have thick sunscreen because this will help prevent the sun from reaching you.  Because some customers thought this baby sunscreen wasn't thick (although others thought it was), it is probably safer to apply a little extra sunscreen on your baby's skin.

Who Shouldn't Buy This Product

Overall, the Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+ is a good sunscreen to buy with few disadvantages.  But there are a few cons about it, so let's take a look at who shouldn't buy this product. First, do not buy this product if you/your baby are allergic to any of the ingredients.  There isn't an ingredient list, but it does state that the main active ingredient is Zinc oxide 20% (non-nano).  If a rash appears on your baby, stop using it immediately.  Some customers were disappointed that their baby still got sun burnt even after applying this sunscreen.  An easy solution is to apply a little extra sunscreen, as some customers thought this was not too thick.

Another disadvantage of this product is the price.  You will only be receiving 3 ounces of sunscreen.  Some of the customers that had large families said that they used up this sunscreen in just one day.  Keep in mind that if you purchase a bigger sized tube, you will be spending a lot more money.

Features and Benefits

There are so many features and benefits of this product.  Let's take a look at its main features.

No Harmful Chemicals

Almost all sunscreens on the market have chemicals in them.  Even some kids sunscreens can contain harmful chemicals.  With this product, you won't have to worry about putting harmful chemicals on your baby's tender skin.  It is made to protect your baby's skin without harming your baby with chemicals.

First Sunscreen To Pass the Whole Foods Premium Care Requirements

The Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+ was the first sunscreen to pass the Whole Foods Premium Care requirements.  This means that this baby sunscreen is definitely a safe option for you.

Easy To Apply

The Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+ is easy to apply. Apply the sunscreen onto all the places on the skin that will be exposed to the sun, including behind the ears, neck, hands, feet, and scalp.  Make sure you apply it 15 minutes before going out into the sun.  Reapply after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating.  Apply at least every 2 hours.  Make sure you do not spread it too thin.  Some customers thought this wasn't a thick sunscreen, so make sure you apply enough.  For an adult you should only go through one ounce of sunscreen. For your baby you will want to use one third of what you'd use for an adult.

Social Proof From Amazon

I've scoured the internet for customer feedback for The Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+.   I'll share some of that feedback comments here:

"This is a wonderful baby sunscreen! Everything about it is great, there are no cons. It smells delightful, like orange blossoms, it is easy to rub in, and my baby has never had a burn while using it. My husband and I have started using it, too, because it is so great. We used to use Neutrogena, which is also great, but the smell of this one is much more pleasant."

"Ok, so I've always used Blue Lizard on my toddler, but my sister preferred thinkbaby for hers. When I saw thinkbaby on sale recently, I thought I'd give it a try. Thinkbaby and Blue Lizard are both very good sunscreens, offering exceptional protection against the harmful rays of the sun. Both received a score of 1 by EWG. Both are moderately priced options. Both are thick and take some time to rub in, but neither are sticky. Not a huge number of significant differences relative to use. That said - and I would never admit this to my sister (I'm the older and wiser one, after all!) - I'll be switching to thinkbaby after trying this tube. The smell of this sunscreen is SO much nicer than any other I've ever used...like a summery creamsicle."

"We live in Texas so a good sunscreen for our 20 month old son is an absolute must, especially since his daycare takes them outside to play twice a day. Thinkbaby's sunscreen has worked great for us; there is a clear difference before when we left him at the daycare without the screen vs with the sunscreen. I had initially bought babyganics sunscreen but I had to return is since it was so difficult to spread and was chalky. Thinkbaby's sunscreen is so much easier to apply, has a milder smell, and is not chalky. My toddler still hates when I put sunscreen on him, but this is the best one we have tried so far."

Alternatives

If the Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+ isn't exactly what you're looking for, there are many other products to try. Today I'll go over three other baby sunscreens you may be interested in:  The Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, the Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Zinc Oxide Mineral Sunscreen, and the Babyganics Mineral-Based Baby Sunscreen Spray.

Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen

The Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen is $24.99.  It is pediatrician recommended and designed for soft baby skin.  It does not contain any skin-irritating fragrances or parabens.  This baby sunscreen is water resistant for 40 minutes.  Similar to the Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+, this product is a mineral-based sunscreen.  However, this product only has SPF 30+ protection.  The Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen has 10% Zinc Oxide and 5% Titanium Dioxide.  All of the Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreens have been dermatologist trusted for over 20 years.  Now, let's take a look on how this product is different from the Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+.

Blue Lizard Austrailian Sunscreen vs Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+

  • The Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen is water resistant for only 40 minutes.
  • Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen is SPF 50+, while the Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen is only SPF 30+.
  • Blue Lizard Sunscreen is higher in price, but you get more sunscreen (8.75 ounces).

If you are looking for an alternative to the Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+, this product is a good choice.  Although the price is higher, you will be receiving more sunscreen.  Another nice feature of the Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen is that it is water resistant for up to 40 minutes.  All in all, the Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen is a great product to try.  You can check it out by clicking here.

Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Zinc Oxide Mineral Sunscreen

The Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Zinc Oxide Mineral Sunscreen is 9.98.  It is slightly higher in price, but it is well known for being safe on baby's skin.  It is specially formulated for babies and contains naturally-sourced 100% zinc oxide active ingredient, which is a widely recommended mineral sunscreen ingredient.  This baby sunscreen is sweat and water resistant for up to 80 minutes.  It is non-greasy, paraben free, fragrance free, phthalate free, and suitable for babies and people with sensitive skin.  This mineral sunscreen has been clinically shown to be as mild as water to skin.  It will easily apply to your baby's skin to soak in moisture without stinging or irritating the skin.

Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Oxide Mineral Sunscreen vs Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen

  • Aveeno sunscreen is made for those with sensitive skin.
  • Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen is slightly lower in price.
  • Aveeno sunscreen has been clinically shown to be as mild as water.

If you have sensitive skin or if you don't want to hurt your baby's tender skin, this product is a great choice.  It has been clinically shown to be as mild as water.  It is also water and sweat resistant for up to 80 minutes.  A disadvantage is that it is slightly higher in price, but only by a little.  If you are wanting a sunscreen that won't hurt your baby's skin, this is definitely a safe choice.  You can check it out on Amazon.

Babyganics Mineral-Based Baby Sunscreen Spray

The Babyganics Mineral-Based Baby Sunscreen Spray is $18.60.  This product is a mineral based sunscreen.  It offers UVA + UVB protection and is water resistant for up to 80 minutes.  There is no PABA, phthalates, parabens, fragrances, or nano-particles.  It is not tested on animals.  This baby sunscreen is a non-allergenic formula that is naturally gentle on skin.  It offers SPF 50 protection.  This product is extra unique because it is a spray.  So instead of rubbing it on like you would with a sunscreen lotion, you spray it on.  This product comes in a pack of two.  Let's take a look at how this baby sunscreen is different from the Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+.

Babyfanics Mineral Based Baby Sunscreen Spray vs Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen

  • Babyganics sunscreen is a spray, not a lotion.
  • Babyganics sunscreen comes in a pack of two.
  • The Babyganics sunscreen is higher in price, but you will be getting two.

If you are wanting a safe alternative to the Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen, the Babyganics Mineral-Base Baby Sunscreen Spray is a great option.  Not only is it effective and gentle on skin, but you will get it in a pack of two.  This product is extra unique because it is a spray.  Check out this baby sunscreen on Amazon by clicking here.

Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+, 3oz
  • First sunscreen to pass Whole Foods Premium Care requirements
  • EWG rated "1" since 2010.
  • Mineral-based sunscreen, free of biologically harmful chemicals, no avobenzone, oxybenzone, or UV chemical absorbers

Conclusion

The Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50 + is a mineral-based sunscreen that does not contain any biologically harmful chemicals, avobenzone, oxybenzone, or UV chemical absorbents.  This is a non-nano zinc oxide formulation.  It is not oily and applies easily. There is no animal testing, paraben, phthalates, PABA, or dioxane.  It is priced rather high for the amount that you are getting.  But other than the high price, most of the reviews for this product were positive. I hope my review of the Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+ can help you decide if this is the baby sunscreen for your child!
