11 Weird Pregnancy Symptoms No One Talks About

Pregnancy can cause your body to start to feel like it’s not your own anymore.  Foods that you’ve never craved before, scents that you’ve never noticed, and feelings that you’ve never felt can all happen during pregnancy.  I’ve researched some weird pregnancy symptoms that women have experienced during gestation and recorded them here.  This is just the tip of the iceberg, as I’m sure pregnant women who are reading this could easily add to the list.

Sneezing

pregnancy symptoms

Because of increased blood flow and volume, pregnant women experience puffier noses and sneezing.  Some women feel like they have allergy-like symptoms all the way through their pregnancies.  Many keep handy a constant supply of tissues.

Constant Urge to Pee

pregnancy symptoms

Because the expanding uterus pushes on the bladder during pregnancy, many pregnant women experience an urge to pee frequently.  The bladder will not be able to expand like it could before having a uterus taking up the bladder’s space.  This is why pregnant women run to the bathroom sometimes as much as hourly.

Heartburn

pregnancy symptoms

The valve between your stomach and esophagus can become relaxed during pregnancy. This can cause stomach acid to leak into the esophagus.  Annoying and painful heartburn can be the result.  To help combat heartburn, eat smaller and more frequent meals.  Cutting out fried foods, spicy foods, and fizzy drinks can also help.

Bloody Noses

pregnancy symptoms

Because of your increased blood volume, as well as the effect of pregnancy hormones on your connective tissues and mucous membranes, bloody noses are a common symptom during pregnancy.  Another thing that some pregnant women suffer from is bleeding gums.

Mood Swings

pregnancy symptoms

Hormone levels change drastically when you become pregnant.  This can make you go into crying fits over the smallest things.  Mood swings are very common during pregnancy, especially that first trimester.

Constipation

pregnancy symptoms

A dreadful symptom of pregnancy is the feeling like you have to go, but you can’t.  Pregnancy hormones can lead to feelings of constipation.  Some women also experience constipation after taking prenatal vitamins.  Your digestive system slows during pregnancy, which can cause a disruption in normal digestive processes.  To help alleviate this problem, try adding more fiber to your diet.

Incredible Sense of Smell

pregnancy symptoms

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I could smell a train coming.  Without fail, I’d smell the train, and a few minutes later I’d hear the whistle and see it coming.  I think it was the diesel that I could smell, but I’m not sure.  All I knew was that I smelled a train. I’ve never been able to smell a train again since I was pregnant.

Tasting Metal

pregnancy symptoms

Some pregnant women get a condition that has them tasting metal.  For some women, they will have a taste in their mouths like they were eating coins all day.

Hating Favorite Foods

pregnancy symptoms

Some pregnant women experience a time when they hate their favorite foods.  This could have to do with hormone changes during pregnancy.  For some, it may have to do with morning sickness.  Women associate food with morning sickness and therefore do not like the food.

Dizziness

pregnancy symptoms

Low blood pressure during pregnancy could lead to dizziness.  Women may also become unsteady on their feet because of the hormonal changes and their baby bump.  Make sure to wear secure flat shoes if you experience dizziness.  High heels can complicate the problem by causing further unsteadiness.

Vivid Dreams and Nightmares

pregnancy symptoms

Vivid dreams and nightmares have been known to happen to pregnant women.  An explanation for this could be that pregnant women wake up more frequently due to bathroom runs and baby movement.  Some experts believe that pregnant women don’t have more dreams, but they happen to remember them more than non-pregnant people since they wake so frequently.
