Safety

The manufacturer of the Philips AVENT Translucent Orthodontic Infant Pacifier issues this warning:  Do not tie the pacifier around your child’s neck as it presents a strangulation danger.

There were not a lot of positive comments left by parents on the safety of this pacifier. However one concerned parent did write this,

“These pacifiers don’t have holes by the nose. I have babies about 8 lbs (preemie twins now one month old) and these pacifiers cover part of their nose and make it hard for them to breathe.  I don’t think they’re safe for smaller babies.”  

She went on to say, “I would advise getting ones with holes by the nose.”

Price

The price of the Philips AVENT Translucent Orthodontic Infant Pacifier received good reviews and comments.  Here is one of the many parents that talked about the price,

“Amazing product for the price I paid. I have never tried this brand before so I was a little skeptical. But I can honestly say it proved me wrong, BPA free, and easy to wash. This product is highly recommended by me for babies.”

Shape

The nipple on this pacifier is collapsible.  The shape is flat and drop-shaped.  Other than one comment about the shape covering part of their babies’ nose, the comments about the shape of this pacifier were positive.

“I love these! I have used them for my baby since he was about a month old. He is almost 5 months old now. They seem to work great! I love the size. I tried a few other brands and my baby just would not take them. They were all too long or the shape was one he didn’t like. These seem to be the shape and length that he likes. I actually bought a ton of these because the baby kept dropping them everywhere. I seriously will not buy any other kind. They don’t have these in the store so I have to purchase them on Amazon and just wait for them to be shipped. I will be using these for my next babies for sure.”

Material

All of the comments left by parents about the material of the Philips AVENT Translucent Orthodontic Infant Pacifier was positive.  Here is just one of the comments,

“Given as a gift to my new granddaughter. Parents are keeping them for use later as she is very tiny, but the soothers appears to be good quality and safe materials.”

Ease of Cleaning

To sterilize this pacifier the manufacturer suggests to put the pacifier in a Philips AVENT steam sterilizer or boil for five minutes. Philips AVENT pacifiers and their snap-on hygienic caps are also dishwasher safe.

There were some negative comments on the ease of cleaning. Parents were concerned by the amount of water that gets in the nipple.  Here is just one of those comments,

“The only thing is that when you are washing them/cleaning them out,  if you submerge them, water can get inside the mouth-piece and you have to squeeze it out and let it dry. If not they get kind of cloudy. I would still recommend these to anyone and everyone!”

And here is another,

“Our 7 month old son’s favorite pacifier since he was a month old. Downside: they are CLEAR and easily lost and they sometimes get moisture inside the nipple when cleaning. One has a completely fogged nipple because I can’t get in there and scrub it.”

Despite the problem with water getting in the nipple, most parents who complained about the cleaning of them still seemed to like this pacifier.

My Conclusion 

If you are looking for a basic pacifier with no bells and whistles at a good price, then I’d say you can’t go wrong with the Philips AVENT Translucent Orthodontic Infant Pacifier.  The only down side that I can find is that water can get in the nipple when it’s being washed. Some parents found it hard to get the water out.  The nipple became cloudy because of the water.  Surprisingly to me, even those that complained about the water retention in the nipple still liked this pacifier.  Most also said that they would purchase it again.
