Rewards Credit Card Review: Capital One Venture Card

The Capital One Venture Card cuts to the point and is very straightforward to use. It also has a good rewards structure that is very user-friendly.  The sign up bonuses are rewarding and it has some good travel rewards. This is a good card for those who travel a lot and want to earn extra miles without having to jump through hoops.  While many travel cards charge a surcharge when you are in a foreign country, this one does not.  You do need to have excellent credit to get this card.  A disadvantage to this card is that there is a $95 annual fee, though they waive the first year’s fee.

Pros

  • Annual fee of $95 is waived for the first year.
  • Generous sign on bonuses – one-time bonus of 50,000 miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening. This equals to $500 in travel.
  • No surcharge in foreign countries.

Cons

  • $95 annual fee
  • Hard to get approved unless you have excellent credit

What Other People Are Saying

Capital One Venture Card

“Coming from someone who has used both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Citi ThankYou Premier cards, I can easily say the Capital One Venture is BY FAR the best travel card I have used and best credit card I have ever owned.”

“Beware if you are signing up hoping to receive the bonus miles for spending $3,000 in three months. They start your “three months” once you have been approved not once you receive and activate the card. Which means you lose out days to actually accrue spending dollars because you do not have the card in your possession to actually spend. I got approved February 28th, however did not receive my card until March 11th. I lost eleven days to spend due to the fact that they start your 90 days once you have been approved not once you can actually spend. This is false advertising. I did not get 90 days to spend, I got 79 days.”

Customer Service

Capital One Venture Card

Customer service reviews left for this card ranged from the good, the bad, to the ugly. It was hard to find any middle ground. Some loved the card, while many had left very negative comments about the customer service.

My Conclusion

The Capital One Venture Card card has sign up bonuses that are rewarding and it has some good travel rewards.  It is a hard card to get approved for unless you have a great credit rating. This is a good card for those who travel a lot and want to earn extra miles. Travelers like that there are no surcharges while spending in a foreign country. I hope that my review can help you decide if the Capital One Venture Card is the right rewards credit card for you!
